We went out to the Buffalo area to visit family and attend my niece Megan’s 2nd birthday party this weekend. We were able to spend lots of time playing with the girls, which meant hundreds of photos. Molly, who is just a few months shy of age 4, has been shooting with me since before her third birthday. She would sit in my lap looking at the images on my Nikon D70 LCD screen, and quickly learned how to press the shutter button while I held the camera. By the next visit, she was framing images through the viewfinder, checking the LCD to see the results, and if they were askew or otherwise undesirable, would proclaim, “No good,” and try again. Now that I have the D200, she will hold the D70 herself and giving the burst speed a run for its money.
We went to the Clarence Day in the Park with our two nieces, and my brother and SIL on Saturday, and that evening, Molly got to stay up way past her bedtime to see the fireworks. While we were waiting for the pyrotechnics, Molly and I shot a panorama. Using the handy IR remote on the D70, Molly shot most of the images herself. I took the rest and stitched it together, and you can see the results in the big panorama gallery at Learning to Fly Originals: SMALL | FULLSCREEN
She then took over the D200 I’d mounted on the tripod, which was at the perfect height, and started taking portraits of all of us. The girl is a natural.
Incidentally, while this is Molly’s first time shooting a QTVR, it’s not her first time modeling for one. The honor for that shoot goes to my father, Frank Pecenco, who created a cylindrical panorama using a homemade panorama head way back in 2004, just after I’d started shooting them myself. Molly was all of 11 months when she modeled for this one with her grandparents. I’ve cleaned it up a bit and put it online: SMALL| FULLSCREEN
